Holding on. Until we go inside.
The lower cabinet was stacked with cards, letters, pictures, and more. So full that the drawer, atop the cabinet, could not open.
Part of me wondered why — why had I held on to all of this for the past 20+ years? That part invited me to simply pick it up and throw it into the trash.
Another part, more curious and intrigued by this assembly of remembrances, suggested it would be appropriate to go through each one, one by one. That was my choice.
Needless to say, this took hours.

And it was a discovery process, as recency gave way to the past, the essence didn't change much. Notes and remembrances written by my now deceased parents. Friends I no longer stay in contact with popped up with a smile. I even found $50 in cash!
And those hours were well spent. Did it impact the loosely imagined timeline? Of course. Yet there was a gift threaded through every remembrance. A reflection on life's journey. On consistent friends over the decades, and on those that, like seasons or chapters, are no longer present but left a lingering reminder.
Beneath all of this was an overwhelming, emotionally charged sense of gratitude. I was loved. I am loved. And I am love.
I am glad I took the time, and I'm grateful for these treasures that are now, save a couple handfuls, discarded and released with utmost respect, appreciation, and love.
The path is clear, as it is illuminated by all the love and gratitude that flows.
So the exploration of this journey called life continues. Inviting us to examine, release and hold on!
Light and joy,
Rhonda
